There are 3 types of resume formats:
The Reverse Chronological Resume Format
A reverse chronological resume lists the candidate’s experience in a time sequence with the most recent experience first. This format works best for people that have no gap in their work history and that are on a career track.
The Functional Resume Format
A functional resume lists your experience by skills set. As opposed to a reverse chronological resume, a functional resume focuses on your relevant skills instead of your career history. This format can be used by people who have held various types of positions during their career or for those that are returning to the workforce after a prolonged absence.
The Hybrid Resume Format
A hybrid resume possesses some characteristics of both the reverse chronological resume and the functional resume. It lists your qualifications by skills set, but also provides an overview of your employment history.
